New Category, New Website, and the Story Behind Both

We Built Our Name on ITAD. Then We Built More.

We Built Our Name on ITAD. Then We Built More.

For years, Sprout has been known as an IT asset disposition company, and for good reason. We are among the best in the business at it, and it remains a core part of what we do every day for our customers. But the work we've been doing, the problems we've been solving, and the platform we've built have grown well beyond what that single label can capture.

The lifecycle we manage doesn't start at end-of-life. It starts at the beginning. From first deployment to final disposal, Sprout delivers a complete suite of lifecycle services across data center and client IT, including deployment and installation, staff augmentation, ITAD and decommissioning, white glove logistics, certified data destruction, and redeployment and circularity.

That is the full lifecycle. That is what we have built. And that is what we are finally calling by its right name: the intelligent technology-lifecycle platform. It's a new category, defined by two things working together: a full-lifecycle partnership, and SmartERP — a uniquely powerful platform that sets a new standard for transparency, velocity, and value. Each is meaningful on its own. Together, they create something the market hasn't had before. This is what Sprout has become, and what only Sprout is built to deliver.

The Platform at the Center of Everything

That platform has a name: SmartERP.

SmartERP is the system of intelligence that makes real-time asset visibility, automated compliance documentation, one-click ESG reporting, and measurable value recovery possible at enterprise scale. These aren't bolt-ons. They were built in as defaults from the ground up. And with APIs, SmartERP fits into existing environments rather than asking them to reshape around it.

While much of the market is still stitching together fragmented systems, manual workflows, and reporting that's always behind, SmartERP has already closed the gap. It gives enterprises clarity, accountability, confidence, and efficiency at every stage. The result: smarter, more sustainable decisions, and a structural advantage that compounds with every project.

60% of the top 10 S&P 500 run on SmartERP today, a level of adoption earned through the highest scrutiny enterprise buyers can bring.

Value That Flows Back at Every Stage

Here's what makes the Sprout approach genuinely different: value doesn't only flow at the end.

Across the lifecycle, Sprout recovers 20–40% more value from retired hardware than the market standard. That recovered value doesn't have to wait until the next refresh cycle to show up on a balance sheet. It can be applied as credit against the cost of new deployments, making installation partially or fully self-funding from day one. It can extend asset life through managed services that reduce total cost of ownership. And when assets do reach end of life, the recovery flows right back into the business, ready to fund the next refresh, reinvest in the lifecycle, or go wherever the business needs it most.

The People Behind All of It

None of it works without people.

Our customer satisfaction NPS scores, consistently between +70 and +90, are a people story. Customers name individual team members in their feedback. They describe a partner that sees problems before they surface, moves with urgency, and shows up the same way for a routine laptop refresh as for a complex, multi-site, AI infrastructure decommission. It's why 90% of our customers stay, and why they keep bringing Sprout deeper into their business.

Why This, Why Now?

For years, our customers saw what Sprout had become before the rest of the market. We were building fast and growing faster, heads-down and focused. The category, the platform, and the standard we'd set had been in motion for years. They just hadn't been shown in full. Today, they are.

Welcome to the new website. The story is here, and we're glad you're here to see it.

Scott brings a unique blend of enterprise leadership, entrepreneurial experience and deep operational insight to Sprout. Most recently he served as Vice President of Deployment and Integration Services at CDW.

Before his role at CDW, Scott founded Sigma Solutions, an IT Services Company he launched in the late 1990’s. He successfully grew the business and later sold it to Pivot Technologies (now Computacenter) in 2012.

Scott brings firsthand experience managing ITAD programs, including restructuring reporting models to improve alignment and outcome. He is a strong advocate for elevating ITAD as a critical part of every IT conversation, believing that every organization has a responsibility to address where their end-of-life IT assets go. At Sprout, he will focus on building a more robust, integrated services portfolio, bringing key capabilities in-house, and delivering high impact solutions.

“What drew me to Sprout is the growing relevance of ITAD across the industry and the opportunity to significantly expand what we can deliver”, Scott shared. “If ITAD isn’t part of your IT strategy today, you’re already behind. In my many years in the hardware ecosystem, Sprout and the ITAD business represent one of the most compelling opportunities I’ve seen”.

Beyond his professional work, Scott is deeply committed to community services. He serves on two nonprofit boards in San Antionio, including Roy Maas Youth Alternatives, and the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, where he dedicates his time and expertise to supporting children and families in his community.

“We’re excited to welcome Scott to Sprout” said Chief Sales Officer, Jason Jellie. “His experience in data center operations will be a huge asset as we continue to scale, strengthen execution, and deliver even greater value to customers”.

Scott will be a valuable addition to the team, and we look forward to seeing the impact he will make.

Caroline Lau Steps Into Chief of Staff Role at Sprout

A
fter nearly a year of supporting Sprout as a contractor, Caroline Lau has moved into a full-time role as Chief of Staff, a transition that reflects both the impact she's already made and the pivotal role she will play as Sprout advances several major initiatives planned for 2026.

From day one, Caroline has helped simplify complexity and bring clarity to fast-moving work. She has an instinct for connecting cross-functional priorities, anticipating what teams need next, and creating a structure that helps people move with confidence. Her work has already strengthened the way Sprout operates—quietly, consistently, and with a deep sense of purpose.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Sprout full time and to contribute more directly to our 2026 priorities. Sprout's values deeply resonate with how I approach work and collaboration. I'm grateful for the opportunity to support our teams and help drive the next chapter of Sprout's growth alongside Shelly and the leadership team."

— Caroline Lau, Chief of Staff

Caroline brings a multidimensional background spanning engineering, supply chain, operations, and organizational alignment. That combination gives her a systems-level perspective paired with the practical judgment needed to keep a growing organization aligned and moving forward.

But what resonates most is how closely her values mirror Sprout's own. She believes in starting where you are, owning your strengths, and focusing on meaningful progress over rigid definitions of success. Her steady presence, her partnership-first mindset, and her ability to unblock others embody the humility, agility, and trust that define Sprout at its best.

"Caroline has a way of bringing order to chaos and pressure into momentum. She's become a steady, trusted force in our most important work. I'm deeply grateful to have her partnership and so excited for the impact she'll help unlock across Sprout."

— Shelly Li, CEO of Sprout

In this new role, Caroline will work across leadership, operations, and strategic programs to support Sprout's 2026 priorities, including deeper operational alignment, clearer processes, and systems that scale as quickly as our growth. Her focus is simple and essential: keep teams coordinated, informed, and moving with clarity. It's work that rarely seeks the spotlight but always strengthens the foundation beneath it.

Sprout Spotlight: Michael Smith

At Sprout, our strongest advantage isn't just our platform or processes; it's the people who bring them to life. Today, we're spotlighting Michael Smith, a leader whose creativity, initiative, and unwavering commitment to sustainability have shaped some of Sprout's most impactful programs.

At Sprout, our strongest advantage isn't just our platform or processes; it's the people who bring them to life. Today, we're spotlighting Michael Smith, a leader whose creativity, initiative, and unwavering commitment to sustainability have shaped some of Sprout's most impactful programs.

Michael joined Sprout at a pivotal moment, when the company was still young, and its eCommerce presence hadn't been built yet. Instead of seeing the gap as a challenge, he saw it as an opportunity.

"When I first learned about Sprout, it was a young company without an established eCommerce presence, which I saw as an exciting challenge. With my background in ITAD, I knew we could build that function from the ground up and maximize the reuse value of products while expanding Sprout's reach."

— Michael Smith, Senior Manager of eCommerce

What resonated with him immediately was Sprout's commitment to sustainability and reuse. "I've always been passionate about environmental sustainability, and I loved that Sprout focused on reusing and reselling electronics rather than simply recycling them. Giving products a second life while benefiting both the planet and our customers really resonated with me."

Michael has worn several hats since joining Sprout, from General Manager to Sales Executive to Senior Manager of eCommerce. What keeps him excited? The pace of innovation. "ITAD is still a relatively new and evolving industry. We're not just following a playbook; we're writing it. That level of innovation and ownership keeps me energized every day."

One initiative he's especially proud of is Sprout's Employee Purchase Program (EPP), which allows clients to offer retired assets back to employees at a discounted rate. "It's been a win-win, promoting sustainability, extending device lifecycles, and building customer loyalty."

Michael's team has also built Sprout's B2C sales program from the ground up, fully integrating all sales platforms into a unified system connected directly to Sprout's SmartERP, giving customers a seamless, data-driven experience. "People often assume sales is purely transactional. But at Sprout, it's about partnership, innovation, and giving customers transparency and results they can trust."

Outside of work, Michael's energy doesn't slow down. He's traveled to 12 countries and 18 national parks, and he's far from done. He's also a big ice hockey fan and player (Go Washington Capitals!) and once played in a regional East Coast band with music videos and an EP.

As a leader, he's inspired by seeing people grow into their potential. "I've been in their shoes before, so helping others succeed is deeply rewarding. Sprout offers endless growth opportunities, and watching that play out motivates me every day."

Since joining Sprout, Michael says he's grown by learning to lean into opportunity and take initiative. "At Sprout, you truly help shape what the company becomes, and that sense of ownership has been a major driver of my personal and professional growth."

Looking ahead, he's excited about Sprout's expansion into multiple facilities and international markets, seeing huge potential in bringing Sprout's eCommerce capabilities to new regions and continuing to innovate in how the company serves customers.

If he had to capture Sprout's culture in one word, it would be trust. "It's the foundation of everything we do, trust within our teams, and trust from our customers who rely on us to handle their sensitive assets responsibly."

Michael's story is a reminder that Sprout's greatest impact comes from the people who build, shape, and elevate it every day, one innovative idea at a time.

State-of-the-art AI data center

Already, data centers are multiplying to meet demand. A 2024 forecast from the International Energy Agency predicts global electricity consumption will more than double in the coming years, from around 460 TWh in 2022 to over 1,000 TWh in 2026, driven by data centers, cryptocurrency, and AI.

But here's the irony: while you're chasing investors and allocating budgets, you may be sitting on millions of untapped value.

This article will answer:

Why do legacy ITAD processes leave time, money, and resources on the table?

What does it look like when IT budgets think beyond CapEx to fund ongoing AI innovation?

How does an IT lifecycle hardware strategy—featuring a centralized platform with end-to-end services—enable enterprises to refresh at top speed and recoup investments?

What makes Sprout the only tech solution built to support a circular IT supply chain?

AI infrastructure is more than a CapEx line item

IT and procurement leaders with a traditional mindset think that managing AI infrastructure comes down to buying and replacing hardware. But that's not the whole story. To make the most of every dollar, their perspective needs to move beyond simple IT asset disposition (ITAD) and toward a full lifecycle strategy for their AI hardware.

What happens when you don't see the fuller picture? When you simply schedule decommissioning and disposal with a vendor and consider the job done? You're leaving money on the table from data center servers, employee laptops, storage arrays, and more, and also introducing risk.

Pitfall 1: Traditional ITAD is usually managed on spreadsheets, with records trapped in Excel and approvals emailed between departments. There's no visibility and manual errors introduce risks that can run into the six figures. Meanwhile, sensitive drives linger in warehouses for pickup, and assets get shipped off with little thought or insight into what comes next.

It's slow and fragmented. But the problems go even deeper.

Pitfall 2: When infrastructure management is limited to outsourced disposal and data destruction, department directors don't see how much velocity, focus, and potential revenue is really being lost:

Missed cost-savings: Without coordinated tracking, on-site decommissioning, and end-of-life optimization, valuable servers depreciate in storage. This erases millions of potential savings that could be earned through value recovery, refurbishment, or redeployment. When there's no on-site option, shipping off-site to a vendor also comes with additional transport, storage, and staging costs.

Wasted valuable time: A scattered process—built on email back-and-forths and manual logistics—increases the risk of downtime between refreshes. It also traps IT, finance, and procurement teams in dreaded menial tasks. Instead of working on high-impact tasks in the AI race, your teams lose hours chasing statuses; updating spreadsheets, coordinating transport, and inventorying, tagging, and prepping equipment.

Compliance risks and blind spots: No centralized oversight means assets can slip through the cracks, and directors have only a vague idea of how much the process is costing them in dollars, talent, and emissions. Tracking is inconsistent and time-consuming, and compliance with environmental regulations is nearly impossible to verify.

Net-net? Assets that could be recovered or refurbished sit idle and depreciate. What should be a strategic lever of the company becomes another cost center.

How an AI lifecycle strategy converts IT cost centers into growth engines

Some enterprises have already solved the cost spiral, stopping IT assets from collecting dust in decommissioning queues. And it isn't because they're working harder. It's because they have a circular supply chain strategy for their hardware, not scattered vendors.

The market's only tech-first solution, Sprout partners with the world's leading enterprises to make aging hardware more resilient—and uncover hidden savings. Backed by a purpose-built platform and an enterprise specialty, Sprout stands alone in turning hardware disposal into a data-driven edge.

Through Sprout partnerships, strategic data center and end-user device retirement has already unlocked over $1 million for a client in the automotive industry, and $2 million for a global fintech firm.

With this recovered value, these companies can fund data center operations, relocations, maintenance, equipment purchases, and more—without touching their CapEx or OpEx budgets.

A combination of professional on-site services and a digital-native platform embedded with AI lets you centralize and have full visibility into your IT asset lifecycle.

With over $2 billion in assets processed and 200+ enterprise clients, Sprout helps companies across the globe have the best of both worlds: efficient, secure disposal and a revenue stream to fund AI transformations. Here's how:

Lower OpEx through simpler processes: Sprout can decommission data centers and devices directly at your facilities—and manage all logistics. On-site services lower your operational expenses, accelerate the process, and save your teams time. A centralized platform provides internal tracking, allowing department leaders to monitor asset statuses, costs, and environmental impact in real time; sync ticketing and inventory systems; and automate workflows.

Cut down on CapEx with quick redeployment: Refurbishing and redeploying retired assets and spares mean you have to purchase fewer assets in the future. Sprout extends the life of your existing equipment by finding more opportunities to reclaim functionality.

Recover value using predicted valuations: With over $200 million recovered in the secondary device market, Sprout can get the most value out of your retired assets. Our platform includes real-time intelligence that predicts recovery valuations during procurement, so you can stop the guessing and plan purchases with recouped dollars in mind.

Turn hidden AI deployment costs into a strategic advantage with Sprout

By 2030, AI could add $20 trillion, 3.5% of the global GDP, to the global economy. But enterprises can unlock even more when they get out of a siloed IT management process and perspective. As the only tech-first solution on the market, Sprout's integrated lifecycle services and circular supply chain platform are tailored to turn your team's CapEx into real value—and are already helping 60% of the top 10 S&P 500 companies do just that.

It's time for your investment in AI hardware to do more. Discover how Sprout's IT Lifecycle Services makes IT asset management your next competitive advantage.

From ITAD provider to circular supply chain partner: What changed (and why it matters)

With global IT hardware spending projected to grow from $141.15 billion in 2025 to $206.05 billion by 2030, pressure is mounting to balance innovation with infrastructure spend and sustainability. This rapid trajectory is pushing organizations to uncover ways to recover the maximum value from their assets.

Circular approach to managing IT infrastructure

Sprout is redefining IT asset disposition (ITAD) for the world's most tech-forward enterprises, modernizing how hardware value is tracked, recovered, and redeployed. As an emerging leader in circular supply chain management, Sprout brings a more intelligent approach centered on security, value creation, and sustainability.

Our SmartERP (SERP) platform, a proprietary, technology-driven engine, connects systems, partners, and data in real time across every phase of the asset lifecycle, driving up to 127% net recovery for resale alone, with additional savings realized through internal redeployment and reuse.

It's the core of our differentiation: What used to be a compliance headache is now an opportunity for enterprises to reduce internal operating and capital costs.

This article explores:

Why traditional ITAD processes limit asset visibility, reuse, and long-term value.

How a circular supply chain partner turns disposal into a continuous system of recovery and reinvestment.

What residual value analysis means for the next era of sustainable, financially savvy infrastructure planning.

Why Sprout is trusted by more than 60% of the top S&P 500 technology and manufacturing enterprises.

The evolution of IT asset management

When IT hardware reaches retirement, it typically means one thing: dispose of it safely and move on. But what if that phase could be the start of something more?

For years, ITAD has been the industry norm—a process focused on end-of-life, compliance, data wiping, and responsible disposition. The goal has been risk avoidance – a mindset that has a lot of shortcomings.

By having a circular supply chain partner, enterprises are now realizing that what was once a purely compliance focus, can be expanded to include value creation and turning hardware decisions into levers for efficiency, sustainability, and financial return.

A circular supply chain partnership is an ecosystem for maximizing the full value and utility of IT assets.

Instead of a one-time transaction, circular lifecycle management is a flywheel that keeps assets and data in play to capture full value. As AI demand strains compute capacity, what once seemed obsolete might now find a second life through redeployment, donation, or resale. Whatever the hardware's next destination, the goal is the same—recover lifecycle value and redirect it into future infrastructure.

The old model is a transaction

Traditional ITAD follows a fixed playbook: retire hardware, call a vendor, schedule a pickup, wipe data, sell what's possible, move on. Once the transaction is closed, the relationship ends until the next refresh.

This transactional process measures success by completed deals, not outcomes. Every decommission adds new quotes, logistics, and paperwork with no shared visibility into which assets left, where they went, or what they were worth.

Today's demands expose the gaps, and those enterprises still juggling disconnected vendors and spreadsheets losing opportunities to redeploy, extract value, and reduce waste.

The new model is strategic lifecycle management

With rapid upgrades and vast device volumes, more enterprises are seeing the value of connecting every stage of their hardware into one continuous lifecycle. The idea is simple: When every asset stays accounted for, its remaining value can be measured, recovered, and reinvested.

Partnering with a circular supply chain leader like Sprout gives your enterprise strategic control over what's in use, what's ready for refresh, and what can be reused, refurbished, or resold.

Our SERP platform goes beyond traditional ITAD tools by linking enterprise systems, partners, and data into a single operational framework.

Rather than treating disposition as an endpoint, Sprout's next-gen SERP architecture turns each stage of the hardware lifecycle into a value event—capturing, measuring, and reinvesting returns in real time.

This continuous loop of visibility and optimization allows Sprout's clients to achieve bottom line gains, not just from resale but also from smarter redeployment, utilization, and planning across an enterprise's global supply chain.

Already, more than 60% of the top S&P 500 technology and manufacturing enterprises rely on Sprout's circular supply chain network to manage IT hardware at scale.

By syncing data from service ticketing and inventory systems, tracking real-time asset status worldwide, and producing audit-ready documentation, hardware heavy companies are turning operational complexity into actionable insight.

Residual value analysis is changing IT asset management

Residual value used to be an accounting footnote. Now it's central to budgeting, strategy, and IT investment decisions.

This approach looks beyond depreciation curves to ask: what might this hardware be worth after its primary role? Redeployment and resale can unlock substantially more value and strengthen the bottom line.

Enterprises that embed residual value into lifecycle planning gain an edge by forecasting which assets to extend or refresh and using recovered value to fund new technology. In today's market, this kind of insight helps organizations offset the reinvestment cost in updating and upgrading infrastructure.

The business impact of lifecycle visibility

IT and procurement leaders often lack visibility into the value of their hardware. But where legacy systems and vendor silos block transparency, circular lifecycle management restores it.

When technology integrates with existing enterprise systems to map every step of hardware life, teams see costs, risks, and rewards more clearly. Importantly, they also support ESG goals, sustainability reporting, and operational resilience.

The results speak for themselves.

Circular supply chain partnerships built on integrated models recover more value from existing assets, extend hardware life, and reduce waste.

The need for this shift from a sustainability standpoint is also clear. The Digital Watch Observatory reports that only about 20% of global e-waste is recycled through formal channels, leaving most in landfills or informal waste streams. That gap is driving enterprises to embrace responsible asset management not only for long-term value, but also for compliance and reputation management.

Put simply, companies that shift beyond one-off ITAD vendors toward circular supply chain partners gain continuous control, ongoing value recovery, and stronger long-term outcomes.

With its next-gen SERP architecture, Sprout's Lifecycle Services platform unites every phase of the asset lifecycle into a single ecosystem of visibility, value, and sustainable growth.

Discover how this next evolution in software can optimize your IT investment from day one through final recovery.

From Chip Recycling to Business Development: Annette’s Journey to Sprout

When Annette first entered the IT industry over 30 years ago, "asset management" didn't even exist. She cut her teeth in chip recycling, then rode the wave as data centers grew in the early 2000s.

When Annette first entered the IT industry over 30 years ago, "asset management" didn't even exist. She cut her teeth in chip recycling, then rode the wave as data centers grew in the early 2000s.

"I'd always been impressed with Sprout. Shelly reached out to me for years, but I was comfortable where I was. When things shifted at my old company, I knew the timing was finally right. I came to Sacramento, met Shelly, and it didn't even feel like an interview, it just felt like we already knew each other. I flew home knowing, this is it, Sprout is where I want to be."

— Annette Roccapalumba, Business Development

What drew Annette in and what's kept her here is the culture. "I thought I had a good culture before, but this tops it," she says. "Everyone is so welcoming and accessible. At Sprout, I feel supported instead of siloed. It's a positive challenge that makes me want to do more."

On the business development side, Annette lights up when she talks about Sprout's proprietary platform. "It's a total game changer," she explains. "Customers love that they can self-service, especially during audits. No one else in the industry has something like it."

But the platform is only half the story. The other half is people. Customers who've worked with Annette across companies continue to bring her and Sprout along for the ride. "Word of mouth has been huge. They'll switch jobs and immediately say, 'You have to work with Sprout.' That's the biggest compliment."

Inside Sprout, Annette says she's grown in unexpected ways. She's become more technical and, most importantly, learned to be part of a truly collaborative team. "In my past roles, BDs hoarded opportunities. At Sprout, we share and support each other. That's how we all win."

Outside of work, Annette is a self-described "introvert in disguise." She loves concerts and spontaneous adventures but secretly treasures her quiet nights.

Looking ahead, she's excited about Sprout's growth from expanding in Europe to rolling out new services that open doors with customers. "I have no regrets. This is exactly where I'm supposed to be."

Annette's story is proof that Sprout's true strength isn't just in our technology or services; it's in the people who bring them to life every day.

Joe served as President and CEO of Sirius Computer Solutions from 2011 until his retirement in 2023, successfully leading the company through multiple ownership transitions and growing it into one of North America's top IT integrators and Managed Services Providers with approximately $4 billion in annual revenue. His career spans strategic roles across the enterprise IT ecosystem, including executive positions at Avnet Computer Marketing and Savoir Technology Group, where he consistently delivered exceptional growth through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions.

Joe's experience includes leading Sirius through multiple ownership transitions, culminating in its $2.4B acquisition by CDW in 2021. His appointment reflects Sprout's growing momentum as the go-to ITAD partner for OEMs, VARs, and MSPs and our continued investment in building high-trust, high-value relationships within the enterprise IT ecosystem.

"Joe is a proven operator who understands what it takes to earn trust at scale. We're thrilled to welcome him to the Board and excited for the experience he brings as we continue to elevate Sprout's impact across the industry."

— Shelly Li, Chief Executive Officer of Sprout

Joe's appointment strengthens Sprout's ability to engage channel partners and enterprise clients with a co-sell motion that delivers value throughout the IT asset lifecycle, from (re)deployment to disposal. His guidance will help Sprout accelerate our growth while staying focused on client outcomes, innovation, and long-term value creation.

"Sprout is building something special, a company that's solving complex problems with speed, purpose, and integrity. For channel partners and enterprises, their reporting tools are second to none in reporting the tracking and benefits of environmentally conscious disposal techniques," said Mertens. "I'm honored to join the Board and excited to support the team as they scale through the channel and help more enterprises achieve secure, sustainable ITAD."

Please join us in welcoming Joe to our team.
