Shelly Li founded Sprout in 2014 after watching dump trucks haul away mountains of discarded electronics outside her Duke University dorm and seeing recoverable value where others saw waste. She brought early experience from Morgan Stanley and McKinsey to a problem most enterprises hadn't thought to solve, and has been deeply invested in every aspect of building the company since day one. She believes lifecycle decisions around what to redeploy, resell, or recycle are a real financial and strategic lever, not a back-office cleanup function, and that the companies who design for the whole lifecycle from day one will be the ones that win. More than anything, she is proud of the people Sprout has attracted and the culture they have built together, holding onto its values even as the company has scaled. Outside of work, family is at the center of everything for Shelly, and when she is not spending time with her daughter, she can be found skiing, hiking, surfing, traveling, or getting lost in a good book.
